Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival

Quiet Sentinel
If you are in Fernandina Beach, Fl. this weekend, please stop by our annual "Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival".  Also stop by my booth and introduce yourself!  I will be in booth # 210 on Centre Street, just in front of the Blue Door Artists Gallery & Amelia Island Coffee Shop.  You will see my latest works, including the 48x48 painting titled "Quiet Sentinel".

Oh, and by the way, besides over 300 artists exhibiting at the show, there will be lots, and lots of shrimp to eat!  Not to mention the invasion of the pirates at noon on Saturday.

This event lasts only TWO days.......see you there!

Back to School

I had the greatest time today.  I got to visit my grandson, Jacob's VPK class and share my art.  We learned color mixing.  Also we learned the difference between abstract, impressionistic, and representational paintings!

Then we painted two paintings!  I say "we" because they were so helpful in telling me what the paintings needed as they progressed!

They are just like little sponges.....they absorbed everything very quickly and like "memory foam" they didn't forget!   If I made a mistake, they quickly told me!

If you get a chance to share with children (who,by the way, are not critical at all) by all means do so. I think I enjoyed it more than them!

And in one of the pictures I see little Savannah's (granddaughter/future artist) head, as she had moved to the "head of the class"!

One of the teachers took these pics...from across the room.  I promise there were 18 kids and two teachers in the classroom!

An Artist has to have an apron!

Yellow & blue make GREEN!

Now we have PURPLE!

Our abstract is almost finished!

What else do we need?

Just a few finishing touches

You identify by shape not color!

Inspirations

Living on a barrier island, inspiration is abundant.  Here are some of the things that inspire me to paint.  What inspires you to paint, write, sculpt, compose...?

Spring Happenings

This painting, titled "Spontaneous Simplicity" was created for an exhibit at the Island Art Association titled "On the Edge".  Since I am trying a more impressionistic approach...this is what happened to my "beach" scene
